Registered volunteers

A TOTAL of 36,721 people registered to become volunteers in the city in the first half of this year, bringing the total number of registered volunteers in the city to more than 1.35 million, official statistics showed.

Volunteers serve in hospitals, on roads and on environmental protection projects, especially on river protection projects.

Roadside parking

A TOTAL of 1,672 roadside parking spaces have been designated on 22 roads across Bao’an District earlier this month.

Motorists are exempted from paying fees for parking on these roadside spaces until Dec. 31. But those who are caught parking outside the designated spaces on the roadside will be issued fines.

Car thieves detained

TWO men were detained by Longgang police when they went to a local police station to report a robbery of two motorcycles Tuesday afternoon.

The two men were trying to sell the two motorcycles they had allegedly stolen in neighboring Huizhou when the motorcycles were stolen by four men in Longgang District. The four suspected robbers were also later detained by police.

Man swaps QR code

A MAN was detained in Nanshan District on Monday for allegedly covering the QR (quick response) code for payment of a shop owner with his own to steal money.

The 24-year-old suspect admitted to having replaced the QR code June 29 and that all payments to the shop owner that day went to the suspect before the shop owner realized what was happening.

The man was detained for five days.
