ASERIES of performances were given by students from Futian District at Starry Sky Theater of the Futian Cultural Hall on June 10. The art show was organized by the Futian Culture and Sports Bureau to celebrate China’s first Cultural and Natural Heritage Day and to further promote the cultural image of Futian District. At the performance, students from Meiyuan Primary School and Mingde Experimental School vividly presented the classical Chinese poems “Mulan” and “A Traveler’s Song” through dramatic performances. Rapid face-changing or Bian Lian performances given by the students of Lianhua Primary School wowed audiences and won their applause. This year’s series of activities will last for three months and will include various cultural activities. For one of these activities, experts were invited to nearly 20 primary and secondary schools in Futian District to show students the charm of Chinese characters, poems and traditional handicrafts. As well, inheritors of intangible cultural heritage reached out to a dozen of neighborhoods to demonstrate the charm of intangible cultural heritage. In 2014, the Futian Culture and Sports Bureau established an intangible cultural heritage brand named “Futian Inheritance.” After three years of development, the brand has won wide recognition and over 100,000 people were influenced by related activities.
