Exhibitions held to celebrate art museum’s anniversary
    2017-07-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IN 1997, renowned Chinese painter Guan Shanyue donated 813 paintings to Shenzhen, later those same pieces of art would become the founding collection of the current Guan Shanyue Art Museum located in Futian District. Until July 21, the city’s top modern art museum is celebrating its 20th anniversary and honoring the painter with a series of academic exhibitions featuring landscape paintings by Guan Shanyue and other famous Chinese painters from the same age, classic paintings from Lingnan Painting School painters, documents reflecting the museum’s history as well as an exhibition on culture and creative works.

“Guan Shanyue and His Age Research on Twentieth-century Landscape Paintings”

A total of 151 landscape masterpieces from well-known 20th century Chinese painters are on display. These painters include Guan Shanyue, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Gao Jianfu, Lin Fengmian, Pan Tianshou, Fu Baoshi, Li Keran, Shi Lu, Wu Guanzhong and Liu Guosong. The painters featured in the exhibition are representative and outstanding in their respective styles of landscape paintings. The exhibition aims to explore Guan Shanyue’s artistic style and to unfold the development of China’s landscape paintings in the 20th century.

“Exhibition of Collaborated Paintings by Zhao Shao’ang, Li Xiongcai, Guan Shanyue and Yang Shanshen”

The exhibition is showcasing 60 classic works from the four Lingnan Painting School masters to highlight the great contributions they made to the development of Chinese painting.

In the 1980s, the four celebrated Lingnan Painting School painters in their 70s lived in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Thanks to the reform and opening up, they gathered together and decided to collaborate with one another on a number of paintings. During the creative process, they never got the chance to communicate in person. However, they still managed to complete over 100 works together. The paintings embody the four masters’ profound artistic talents as well as their deep friendships.

“Document Collection Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of Guan Shanyue Art Museum”

To mark the museum’s 20th anniversary, this special exhibition is displaying a timeline showcasing the history of the museum and all of its developments over the past 20 years. As well, selected pictures from the museum’s archives are on show to highlight the historical events and achievements of the museum.
