First Fridays

First Fridays is back in a new coffee shop in Shekou with an intimate movie room space. Featuring a variety of short films, this event aims to provide a platform for local filmmakers to share their creations. A Heart for China, a local charity organization, will display children’s artwork in the movie room. With a donation, you can take one home. Doors open at 8 p.m. and films start at 9 p.m. After that, Muzibox runs from 10 p.m. till late featuring vinyl DJs.

Gary Chaw

Malaysian singer-songwriter Gary Chaw will perform a night of pop songs. Chaw’s early influences came from his admiration of Stevie Wonder and R. Kelly. He is renowned for his stage presence and wide vocal range.

China League One

Shenzhen Kaisa F.C. will play Yunnan Lijiang F.C. on Saturday. Shenzhen Kaisa F.C. is a professional football club that competes in the China League One division, the second tier of Chinese clubs. It was tipped for promotion to the Chinese Super League at the start of the season, but is languishing after a below-par start to the campaign. The club’s former head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was sacked in early June for not mustering up a win in the club’s eight games. The team’s current head coach is Wang Baoshan.
