Policemen run red light to get girl to hospital
    2017-July-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TWO police officers drove through a red light in the pouring rain to take an infant girl to a hospital for emergency treatment, according to a report Sunday.

The girl’s mother, surnamed Zhou, was taking her 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter to see a doctor at the Shenzhen Children’s Hospital for a high fever. While they were still on a bus, the girl suddenly suffered from a cramp and went into a coma.

Because of congested traffic, the bus was having a difficult time moving and there was not enough time to call an ambulance. The bus driver asked for help from passing vehicles.

Seeing the driver waving in distress, the two officers, Wang Junchao and Lui Yuan, pulled over. They learned about the girl’s condition, wailed the siren and rushed to the hospital. On their way to the hospital, Wang sped through a red light.

Wang said that he also has kids, so he felt for the parent’s distress. It was an emergency, so all he was thinking about was how to get the girl to the hospital as soon as possible, and there was no time to consider the danger of running red lights, Wang added.

The girl has been discharged from the hospital. (Lei Kaibin)
