Cameras on buses
BUSES in Shenzhen will have video cameras installed before the end of August to improve the city’s intelligent safety management, sources from Shenzhen’s transport commission said.
The decision to ensure transport safety was made after a bus accident Thursday on Guanghe Expressway in Huizhou that killed 19 people and injured 30 others.
The commission also launched a 10-day action to check for hidden perils in bus operation to prevent accidents involving buses, taxis and long-distance coaches.
Dangerous chemicals
A VAN owner surnamed Liu was detained at the Songgang Police Station in Bao’an District for five days for illegally storing 200 kilograms of fuel in the van.
Patrolling officers intercepted the van on Songming Boulevard on Tuesday night. Liu had refitted the van and was transporting the 200 kilograms of gasoline to a customer.
Liu didn’t have the permits to transport dangerous chemicals.
Phone smuggling
THREE men were caught trying to smuggle over 200 phones through customs in Luohu District, according to a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report.
The men had attempted to blend in with cross-border office workers, but customs officers became suspicious when one of the men walked stiffly and was without luggage. Upon examining him, they found a total of 46 phones taped across his waist.
The officers soon identified the other two smugglers, who had a total of 158 phones taped to their waists and legs.
