Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra will collaborate with violinist Jiang Yiliang to present Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto in D Major.” The orchestra will also play the Russian composer’s “Symphony No. 6 in B Minor.” Mischa Damev will wield the baton. Due to its beautiful and excellently harmonized melodies, “Violin Concerto in D Major” is one of Tchaikovsky’s best-known works. Several of the most recognizable themes from the piece have been used in movies, such as the 2009 French comedy film “Le Concert” and the 2002 Chinese movie “Together.” Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 6 in B Minor” is his final completed symphony and the composer entitled the work “The Passionate Symphony.” Born in 1996 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, Jiang won the second prize at the 20th Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition in 2013. He has cooperated with several celebrated orchestras such as China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Qingdao Orchestra and Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra. The multi-talented Damev is of Franco-Bulgarian descent and has enjoyed a close working relationship at many European theaters. From 1990 to 1999, he was artistic director of the Orpheum International Festival for Young Soloists in Zurich. Between 1992 and 2007 he led the Swiss Lilienberg recital series and the Lilienberg Foundation Art and Culture Division. In 2000 he was appointed trustee of the London International Master Prize Competition for Contemporary Symphonic Music. In 2007, he was appointed Head of Music of the Directorate of Cultural and Social Affairs of Migros Cooperative Federation in Zurich, where he arranged Swiss tours for a wide variety of internationally renowned orchestras, ensembles and soloists, while simultaneously maintaining his successful conducting career. Since 2011, Damev has conducted in China on a regular basis. In February 2014, he performed with the Symphony Orchestra of India at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. In December 2016 he conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
