THERE is no longer any excuse for missing the flowering of your favorite trees, at least if you live in Nanshan District. By simply using a phone to scan the QR codes attached to trees along some roads in Nanshan District, residents can acquire detailed botanical information, the Shekou Daily reported.
The available information includes species, florescence, morphological characteristics and growth habits.
A resident, surnamed Chen, said that she often pays attention to the plants on the street and has been wanting to learn about them. Now that the signs and digital identification provide people with a convenient way to learn about the trees, it is also a good opportunity to popularize botanical knowledge among residents and stimulate their awareness to protect the environment, Chen said.
The project was initiated by the city’s urban management bureau and the forestry bureau. The signs can be seen on sidewalks along Nanshan Boulevard and Shuiwan Road.
