Police take care of abandoned infant
    2017-July-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

POLICE officers with Niuhu Police Station have been busier than usual over the past two weeks as they are busy handling their cases and taking care of an abandoned newborn who was found in a run-down house in Guanlan, Longhua District.

Wang Zhigang recalled being dispatched to an old house in a village in his precinct where the infant had been found on the morning of June 26. It appeared that the boy had only been born a couple of days before he was left there, alone.

According to the woman who called the police, she had discovered the abandoned baby when she walked past the house at around 6:30 a.m. The boy was covered with a piece of cloth. Wang took the infant back to the police station.

At the station, Wang became a baby-sitter. Being a father himself, Wang knew how to change the baby’s diapers and prepare the formula milk to feed him.

The baby was taken to the Guanlan People’s Hospital later that afternoon. Doctors found the baby was suffering from pneumonia.

While the infant was hospitalized, police officers in the station took turns taking care of him.

The newborn was released from the hospital Monday, and Wang contacted Bao’an Social Welfare Center, where the boy will be staying. The center said that before the boy’s parents are found, they will look after the newborn without exception.

The police urge the parents to pick up the boy as soon as possible. (Zhang Qian, Dong Haowu)
