Traffic violations
THE city’s electronic cameras, 1,710 sets in total, captured 533,600 traffic violations in the first half of the year, an increase of 135 percent over the same period last year.
Among the violations, most were made by non-locally registered vehicles entering restricted areas in Luohu, Futian, Nanshan and Yantian districts during rush hours.
Tunnel project
THE Dayanshan Tunnel project, a key project for Metro Line 6, was recently completed, representing a solid step towards completing Line 6 by 2020. The tunnel is 3,089 meters long and geographically complicated, as it goes under a gas pipeline, road tunnel and two water tunnels.
Multiple car collision
MULTIPLE vehicles collided on Shuiguan Expressway on Wednesday afternoon, causing the carriage of a truck to flip and the headstock to ram into the median, causing severe damage. Oil leaking from the truck spread across the ground.
The accident resulted in heavy traffic, since passing vehicles could only use the right lane of the expressway.
Vaccination insurance
THE one-stop online children vaccination app, Yeemiao, announced its new mode providing online vaccination insurance through Ping An Insurance on Wednesday. The new feature will help parents find and purchase all kinds of insurance for their children’s vaccinations.
Ex-official jailed
FENG JIANG, former director of the Longgang administration under the city’s urban planning, land and resources commission, has been sentenced to five years in jail for taking 840,000 yuan (US$121,739), HK$2.2 million (US$281,932) and US$20,000 in bribes. In exchange, Feng abused power and made profits for others in land planning adjustment, land parcel swap, project reviews and assessment as well as property disputes when he served as a deputy director and director of the administration, according to prosecutors.
Feng’s illicit earnings have been confiscated and he has been fined 1 million yuan.
Unqualified pools
A RECENT check over 323 swimming pools in Shenzhen showed 27 of them failed to meet standards for free residual chlorine, total bacterial counts, carbamide, coliform and pH value. The city has 764 certified swimming pools and the health authority started regular checks over the swimming pools at the start of the summer season to ensure water quality.
