Falling glass injury

A MAN surnamed Wu was hit by a falling piece of glass as he was walking past a building under renovation Friday.

The owner of the five-story building in Longgang District immediately took him to the hospital.

The glass cut Wu’s arm since he shielded his head with his arm, requiring over 30 stitches. The owner decided to renovate and reopen the five-story building after a fire.

The district government has suspended the building’s construction and started an investigation. The owner said that the cause of the accident was unclear, but that they would pay for all of Wu’s medical costs.

Talas brings heavy rain

THE city is expected to see torrential rain today caused by Typhoon Talas, the fourth typhoon of the year, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.

Talas formed at 5 p.m. Saturday in the middle of the South China Sea and skirted off south of Hainan Island and entered Beibu Bay yesterday afternoon.

The observatory said the torrential rain will fade tomorrow and the temperature will rise again starting Wednesday.
