BAO’AN People’s Procuratorate on Monday approved the arrest of a man who allegedly killed two people and injured nine others at a Walmart outlet in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District, on Sunday night.
The 30-year-old suspect, identified as Jiang, will face a charge of jeopardizing public safety through dangerous means, according to a notice released by the procuratorate Monday night.
In an update release by Bao’an District Public Security Bureau, police said Jiang conducted the attack alone, refuting different versions of an online rumor that Jiang conspired with several others in the attack.
Police said the groundless rumors misled the public and disrupted public and social order. Rumormongers will be held responsible and will be punished accordingly, police said.
One version of the rumor said at least three people were involved in the attack. One of them had been killed by police and another found in Yantian Village, while the third was still on the run.
