OVER the past three years, a driver surnamed Dong has been pulled over repeatedly for inspections by police on the suspicion that his car was stolen.
According to Dong, he purchased the car through a legal channel in 2010 under the name of his niece. He registered the car under his name in 2014 and got a new license plate. Since then, his car has continued to be stopped by police as its plate number was previously registered to a stolen car.
He has been going between the vehicle administration office and the police department trying to find a solution, but to no avail.
The city’s vehicle registration office said there was no problem with Dong’s car. However, a record at Lianhua Police Station showed that the car plate had actually been used by a stolen car in 2003. As the case had never been solved, police couldn’t delete the information from the record, so they suggested that Dong apply for another plate number.
The city’s traffic police bureau responded last week, saying that they would get the relevant departments to review the car’s identification and arrange for Dong to apply for a license change. (Lei Kaibin)
