SHARING has become a key word for many new businesses — from bikes to capsule hostels. However, some of these new enterprises may have the potential for harm.
Nanshan police recently sealed up a capsule hostel in Nanshan District that had violated fire safety protocols, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
The police station received a report about the capsule hostel in a residential building. According to a police investigation, the apartment was filled with capsules, with one stacked on another.
The hostel’s main door was the only exit and it lacked fire-fighting equipment required by the law for places intended for gatherings of people. In addition, the aisle between the capsules provided insufficient space and the capsules were made of combustible materials, which all pose fire hazards.
The hostel, which was established in a renovated four-bedroom apartment, could accommodate up to 24 lodgers at a time. Facilities, like a bathroom, kitchen and laundry room, were shared among the guests.
To date, the Nanshan police have sealed off the hostel and plan to step up efforts on inspecting for violations of fire safety regulations. (Lei Kaibin)
