MOTORISTS in the Guiwan area will be able to drive to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway directly from the underground parking garages of their housing estates when an urban project in Qianhai is completed in 2020.
The development of Qianhai’s Area V, the single largest urban project ever, will be completed by 2020, the project contractors, China Railway and China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Bureau, said.
The project involves 150 individual subprojects, such as infrastructure, underground passages, rail links, overpasses, parks and pipelines.
Area V of Qianhai covers 4.9 square kilometers and the projects are estimated to cost 2.35 billion yuan (US$346 million). The area is oriented by the coastal belt in the west, Yueliangwan Boulevard and the Guiwan River bank in the south and Shuangjie River Corridor in the north.
The Phase I project in the Guiwan area includes 48 urban projects covering 22.37 square kilometers, 42 passages for pedestrians, a 1.5-kilometer underground vehicle lane, three cooling stations, five footbridges, 10 community parks and five elevated walking passages.
As most of the urban projects are being developed underground, the development will allow more space for developing above ground public transport and a slow traffic system.
Since October 2016, 10 projects have been initiated and once all of the projects are completed, vehicles will be able to go directly from the underground parking areas to the urban trunk roads.
