Whimsical afternoon tea for the summer

THE Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou welcomes the summer with a whimsical afternoon tea experience where guests are whisked away into a fun-filled world of themed menus and decorative pieces.

Pearl Lounge transforms into a fairy tale paradise this July and August with a summer fantasy featuring a Ferris wheel tea set and colorful decorations, as well as a selection of unique sweet and savory specialties served with refreshing tea.

The talented pastry chefs of the hotel take you to a colorful fairyland filled with fancy delights.

Sweet treats and savories will spin on a Ferris wheel and a series of pastries made with seasonal ingredients is set to delight tastebuds. Savories include roasted duck rice rolls with mango chutney; chocolate peanut butter sandwiches; ham, cheese and pineapple sandwiches; and crispy fried mac and cheese.

Accompanying decadent bites include chocolate chip scones with chocolate spread and Chantilly cream; panda chocolate cakes; honey bee cupcakes and yellow duck lollipops.

The highlight of this afternoon tea is the homemade 100 percent hazelnut chocolate sandwich cookie with chocolate raspberry verinne.

The culinary team has created the unique spread from a blend of 100 percent hazelnut paste mixed with Valrhona chocolate, which creates a more flavorful nutty hazelnut filled sandwich with crunchy butter cookies, topped with a crispy chocolate pearl to pair with the smooth raspberry chocolate mousse.

Guests can also enhance their afternoon tea experience with the world-renowned TWG tea. Coffee and hot chocolate are also available to pair with the selection of savory treats.

“Summer is a season full of fun. Even the heat of the sun can’t dampen the enthusiasm for play and curiosity for new things,” said Calvin Sia, executive pastry chef of The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou.

“We draw inspiration from our childhood memories and the innocent smiles of kids to whip up colorful and delicious flavors that adults and children alike can appreciate together.”
