TWO construction workers who were pierced by iron bars in two separate accidents have been saved and are out of danger.
On July 21, a 46-year-old worker, identified as Zhang, was impaled by a 75-cm iron bar that traveled through his brain from his lower jaw on the left to the top of his head on the right.
Zhang was rushed to Long-hua People’s Hospital and was later transferred to Peking University Shenzhen Hospital. Neurosurgeons in the hospital immediately commenced surgery upon his arrival.
“This type of surgery is rare as we have to remove the iron bar without damaging the brain and causing bleeding,” said Ren Qihui, a doctor at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital.
Zhang regained consciousness the next day after surgery.
Separately, on the same day, Longhua People’s Hospital received another patient whose abdomen had been pierced by an iron bar.
The patient lost consciousness due to blood loss.
The patient later regained consciousness 48 hours after the accident and is now in stable condition.
