深圳教育援疆成广东教育援疆一面旗帜 From kindergarten to university, Shenzhen has been actively providing Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with aid in education, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported. Located in Kashi City, Xinjiang, Shenzhen-Kashi No.1 High School is a modern school that was built with the aid of Shenzhen, and it is one of the first boarding schools in the area. With an investment of 134 million yuan (US$19.4 million), the school includes teaching buildings, student and teacher dormitory buildings and a sports field. “The school has top-level facilities, which are no worse than that of the same existing types of high schools in Shenzhen, even better than some,” said Liu Yaojuan, principal of the school. As bilingual education is popularized in Kashi, an increasing number of students are familiarizing themselves with Mandarin and their ethnic language. Aier Pati, a 15-year-old student who studies at the high school, speaks good mandarin and acts as his mother’s secretary this summer. Together they met with clients visiting their factory. Shenzhen also has built multiple new facilities in Kashi City and Ta County. Ta Heman School, Ta County’s most modern school, was built with support by Vanke — a Shenzhen company. As for universities, the construction of Kashi University’s new campus is almost complete. By 2020, the institution expects to have a total of 15,000 students. Its new campus will be mainly used by full-time students, and the old one will be used for adult and teacher education. Shenzhen contributed half of the 200-million-yuan aid fund. Shenzhen is also proactive in dispatching teachers. To date, eight batches of teachers were sent to Xinjiang, with a total of 117 personnel. What’s more, four batches of volunteers, a total of 50 people were present in Xinjiang. Kashi University is now transforming into a comprehensive applied technology university. Three professors from Shenzhen are currently lecturing in three majors there. (Lei Kaibin) |
