Official expelled
A FORMER official with the General Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government has been expelled from the Party and is being investigated for serious disciplinary violations. Tang Yaozhi, born in August 1946, violated rules by taking bribes and making profits for others when he was in charge of promoting rail construction in the city.
Fugitive caught
A MAN who had been on the run for 14 years for homicide was caught by Nanshan police in an electric bike theft last month.
On June 25, Zhaoshang Police Station received a report about an electric bike that had gone missing. Police caught the suspect, surnamed Gu, after checking security footage.
After checking his ID and finding the photo look quite different from him, police officers suspected that Gu was a fugitive wanted by Hebei police for a homicide 14 years ago in Qinghe County.
Gu later admitted his guilt and was taken into custody by Hebei police.
New bus routes
LONGHUA will open three express bus routes starting from July 31, to Futian CBD and Shenzhen Science and Technology Park to relieve traffic pressure in the district during rush hour.
Express Bus No. 18 will run between Longsheng Metro Station and Shenzhen Media Group for a flat fare of 3 yuan (US$0.44). The bus departs at 10 minute intervals between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Express Bus No. 19, with a flat fare of 2 yuan, runs between Baishilong Metro Station of Line 4 and Zailing Metro Station of Line 9 in 10 minute intervals between 7:40 a.m. and 8:40 a.m.
Orange alert for heat wave
China’s meteorologists renewed an orange alert yesterday as a heat wave persists in southern parts of the country. Temperature in areas south of the Yangtze River, on the JIanghuai Plain and Sichuan Basin hit 39 degrees Celsius yesterday, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC). Some areas may see temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
