Hot weather easing

SHENZHEN issued an orange warning for high temperatures yesterday, but there will be showers today and tomorrow to help ease the hot weather. Typhoon Nesat landed in Fujian Province yesterday, while Typhoon Haitang was 631 kilometers away from Shenzhen yesterday morning and moving northeastwardly over the South China Sea.

Alipay bus fee

RIDERS can use Alipay to pay the fees on 78 buses operating on four routes including B683, 12, 17 and 213.

Residents have to register with the Shenzhentong Pengtao app, a feature of the Transport function under Urban Services in Alipay, before they can use Alipay for bus fees. Residents will be given a QR (quick response) code after completing the registration. Bus riders can pay the fee by having their QR code scanned.

The cashless payment method will be introduced on all buses in the city before the end of the year. Riders who pay with Alipay will enjoy the same discount as they do using Shenzhentong cards.

Diamond smuggling

A MAN was caught by Shatoujiao Customs carrying 138.19 grams of diamonds while trying to drive his car into Shenzhen via Zhongying Street in Shatoujiao, Yantian District.

Customs officers didn’t find anything unusual in his car, except for the two parcels full of diamond particles, amounting to 1,632 pieces. The diamonds are estimated to have a market value of 2 million yuan (US$296,903).

According to regulations, the import of diamonds is monopolized by Shanghai Diamond Exchange, which then distributes the gemstones to mainland customers.

Fuel station fine

DRIVERS who violate traffic rules like cutting in, making U-turns and illegally parking at gas stations in the city will be fined between 200 and 2,000 yuan starting tomorrow.

Fuel stations have been ordered to complete traffic guidance signs at the stations to avoid congestion. According to regulations, a driver will be fined 2,000 yuan if a violation causes congestion or an accident.

Exam cheats

EIGHT people were caught for cheating at recent examinations to qualify as app-based cab drivers, according to a release by the city’s public transport administration.

The examination cheaters have been blacklisted. A total of 44,080 applicants have sat for the qualification examinations since they were initiated this January.
