POLICE in Nanshan District made a public statement yesterday, saying that a Shenzhen University student surnamed Luo, who had been missing in Hong Kong since Saturday, was found in a safe condition.

Nanshan police did not disclose any further information about why the girl was missing for two days and three nights. The police said they did not disclose the full story of Luo’s whereabouts to protect her and her family’s privacy.

The 21-year-old student reportedly entered Hong Kong from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint alone Saturday. She allegedly contacted one of her friends on her phone via the Wi-Fi in a shopping mall at Tuen Mun at around 3:30 p.m., but was later unreachable.

Records provided by Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint suggested that Luo departed to Hong Kong around 1:23 p.m. Saturday and no record showed that she had returned to Shenzhen.

Shenzhen University released a post yesterday morning, and asked people to share it in an effort to locate the student.

The Shenzhen Daily attempted to contact Luo’s father several times yesterday afternoon, but he hung up on the first attempt and then turned off his phone.

Worried about the girl after they lost contact with her Saturday, one of her friends reported her missing to Shenzhen police one day later and her father came to Shenzhen from their hometown in Guizhou Province.
