Green plans passed

AT an executive meeting of the Shenzhen Municipal Government hosted by Chen Rugui, the acting mayor of Shenzhen, a document containing the plans for the city’s ecological development from 2017 to 2020 was initially passed.

According to the document, Shenzhen’s development over the next five years will follow the principles of being green, efficient, sustainable and low-carbon. The plans will be submitted to the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress for review after being amended.

Flu season

THIS month is a high-risk season for influenza in the city, and a top-level flu warning was issued for this week Tuesday. The warning suggested that it is “highly possible” that people will get the flu.

Residents are reminded to avoid going to crowded public places, to wear a mask when flu symptoms appear, to get an influenza vaccine and to regularly sterilize work spaces.

Car accident frauds

THREE suspects who allegedly blackmailed drivers by faking car accidents in Bao’an District were busted recently.

To make the car accidents seem real, one of the suspects would scatter glass marbles on the victim’s car so they would make loud sounds when the suspect’s car approached.

Then the suspect would point to a pre-existing scratch on his car to blackmail the drivers, who for the most part were female or new drivers who might have already violated traffic rules before the fake collision.

Airport marina

THE construction of a new marina at Shenzhen International Airport has been completed, the airport announced Tuesday. The marina is now open to the public for a trial session.

Covering an area of 100,000 square meters with 176 docks of various sizes, the marina will serve yachts traveling among the ports and marinas in Shenzhen and other cities.

It is also expected that the marina might open routes to Hong Kong and Macao in the future.

Gloomy real estate

THE city’s real estate industry has been seeing a gloomy trend since last year, due to the effects of policy controls and high prices.

The number of deals reached in July bottomed out with only 2,023 sets of new apartments sold, a decrease of 32.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

Housing prices have also continued to decrease in all areas of Shenzhen, except for Nanshan and Bao’an districts.
