Cashless payment

METRO riders on Line 4 will be able to purchase tickets online next year, according to the HKMTR, the operator of the Metro line. Residents can pay for single-trip tickets with WeChat payment by scanning the quick response (QR) code on an iTVM at any station along Line 4 after choosing their destination. It has been reported that each purchase of a ticket using an iTVM can save more than 10 seconds, which will ease congestion during rush hours.

Smuggled fruit seized

MORE than 150 kilograms of undeclared fruit from Japan were recently intercepted at Huanggang Checkpoint by the inspection and quarantine bureau. The fruit, most of which had been grown in counties affected by leakage from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, was hidden inside a dual license plate van. Foods from 10 Japanese counties affected by the nuclear leak have been banned from being imported since 2011, when Japan was devastated by an earthquake.

Travel time

IT will take about 20 minutes to travel to Huizhou from Shenzhen on an inter-city express train when the Ganshen High-speed Railway is put into operation in 2020, it was reported yesterday. Ganshen (Jiangxi-Shenzhen) High-Speed Railway is part of the Beijing-Kowloon High-speed Railway with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
