THE city’s public security bureau has put the new text service number, 12110, into use for residents who need to contact the police by text message. Residents in Shenzhen now can text 12110 to get connected with a 110 operator. The previous text service number 0755110 will be terminated Sept. 15.

Man attempts suicide

A 20-SOMETHING man jumped from the eighth floor of a residential building at a Longgang estate Wednesday because his family wouldn’t allow him to continue his education.

His father broke his left arm trying to catch him on the ground floor. The young man was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment and is still in critical condition.
