Four free concerts at Concert Hall
    2017-08-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Although Shenzhen Concert Hall’s main performance hall has been under renovation for a month, the lobby is still open for four free concerts Saturday afternoons in August. Entry is free and no sign-up is required.

Violin concert

Students attending Shenzhen String Competition and Violin Open Competition will collaborate for a concert of catchy tunes, such as Monti’s “Czardas,” Sarasate’s “Gypsy Airs” and Chinese folk songs.

Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 5

Guqin concert

Chinese guqin players Yao Liang and Zhu Yiting will present Chinese folk tunes. The guqin is a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the zither family. It has been played since ancient times, and has traditionally been favored by scholars and literati as an instrument of great subtlety and refinement. It is sometimes referred to by the Chinese as “the father of Chinese music” or “the instrument of the sages.”

Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 12

Piano and violin concert

Shenzhen students Chen Jilin, Zeng Yuyuan, Huang Kexin and Tang Jiawen will present Ravel’s “Jeux d’eau,” Chopin’s “Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 31, No. 2,” Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata in D Major, Op. 28, No. 15” and “Moonlight Sonata,” Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in C Major, BWV846” and Bizet’s “Carmen Overture.”

Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 19

Pop concert

Singer Liang Lishi will sing her original songs.

Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 26

Venue: Shenzhen Concert Hall, intersection of Hongli Road and Yitian Road, Futian District (福田区红荔路和益田路交汇处深圳音乐厅)

Metro: Line 3 or 4, Children’s Palace Station (少年宫站), Exit D(Cao Zhen)
