POLICE are investigating after an 18-year-old woman gave birth to a baby and then threw her child from the fifth floor of a building in Jindi Industrial Park in Futian District, sznews.com reported.

The woman went into labor during working hours and stayed in the bathroom for about two hours before giving birth to the baby girl. She didn’t know she was pregnant, and not knowing what to do she threw the baby out of the window. The baby died instantly, the report said. When questioned upon returning to work, she claimed that she was having her period.

Following a preliminary investigation, the woman has been charged with murder.

It was reported that the woman is from Chongqing Municipality and just turned 18. She came to Shenzhen to work not long ago. Her parents have been working in Shenzhen for many years, but they seldom talk to each other. Neither she nor her parents noticed that she was pregnant, and she doesn’t know who the baby’s father is.

In another case, a newborn was thrown out of a window on the sixth floor of a building in Longhua District in August 2014. The baby’s mother was only 19 years old and thought that the sickness caused by her pregnancy was tetanus. When the baby was born, her mind went blank and she threw the baby out the window. (Zhang Yu)
