A SUMMIT was held at Techcode incubator in Nanshan District on Monday to promote the transformation of the scientific and technological achievements of Shenzhen and Hong Kong universities, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
It was reported that in the first half of this year, Nanshan District’s GDP reached 194.01 billion yuan (US$29.05 billion), an increase of 9 percent compared to a year earlier, remaining first in the province. By the end of 2017, the number of State-level high-tech enterprises in the district will increase to 3,000.
At present, Nanshan District not only has 135 listed companies, but also a number of industry-leading enterprises such as Tencent, ZTE and Mindray. The district has become a base for unicorn startups in Shenzhen and even Guangdong Province.
In terms of innovation achievements, the district has contributed one-fourth of the country’s PCT international patent applications, with a total exceeding 10,000. As of May 2017, the number of patent applications for inventions was 12,464, a 44.2 percent year-on-year increase.
Regarding the environment for mass entrepreneurship and innovation, the district has built 217 incubators and maker spaces, including 46 incubators and 171 maker spaces, an increase of 32 percent compared with last year. It is particularly worth mentioning that the venture capital incubator model created by Nanshan District has been adopted by the State Council’s new policy for mass entrepreneurship and innovation.
It has also proposed to speed up the construction of the SZ-HK Base of Production, Education & Research and the innovation and entrepreneurship base for youths, and to explore new modes of cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship between the two cities.
It has been reported that Nanshan District will continue to focus on cooperation between colleges and universities in building a collaborative innovation center, including three platforms and four bases. The district has introduced many first-class international companies to the Houhai Central Area headquarter base and the Shenzhen Bay headquarter base, while at the same time local Shenzhen start-ups are also being encouraged to apply for land use rights there.
