Didi offers preferred locations for carpooling

BACKED by its big data capability, Didi Chuxing, the largest app-based cab service provider in China, upgraded its carpooling service by recommending the best pick-up locations for carpoolers.

Shenzhen riders using the latest version of the Didi app will receive up to five recommended locations when they start using the carpooling feature of Didi Express. The system will offer the best location for carpooling based on distance, time and road situation. The recommendation of best location will help avoid detours during carpooling, save time and improve vehicle efficiency.

Statistics show that intelligent carpooling avoids 30 percent of detours. To ensure efficiency, carpoolers and drivers are required to arrive at the designated location at a certain time. Carpoolers are advised not to casually change their destinations.

The upgraded carpooling service will improve efficiency and relieve congestion, especially during occasions such as concerts and football matches.

However, an English-version of the Didi app is not yet available to Shenzhen users. Didi Chuxing released the English version of its app on a trial basis in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in May.

The English-language update applies to three of Didi’s most popular services — Taxi, Premier and Express — and the app will also provide an in-app translation function. Didi said the bilingual functionality will be rolled out in other Chinese cities in the near future.
