THE Shenzhen-based electric car maker BYD won the 2017 Tech Driver award from the Deutsches CleanTech Institut (DCTI), a clean-energy industry analyst based in Germany. The company was offered the award because of its high-functioning new-energy project in West Virginia in the United States, according to a press release from BYD.
Located at a 100.5 MW wind farm in West Virginia, the Beech Ridge energy storage device developed by BYD uses 18 sets of 1.8 MW centralized BYD energy storage modules to provide ancillary service for the power station.
BYD topped more than 300 new-energy projects nominated for the honor, which required a rigorous process of reviews factoring in the levels of environmental impact and technical innovation.
“In nearly 10 years, BYD has gained abundant experience in developing and delivering innovative energy storage solutions. The Beech Ridge device is just one of the projects of which we are proud,” said Micheal Austin, BYD’s vice president in America.
This is the latest prestigious award BYD has won for its energy storage projects. Earlier this year, an energy storage solution provided by BYD for the National Wind Solar Storage Demonstration Project in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, received the First Mover award from DCTI.
Previously, the 31.5 MW/12.06 MWh Grand Ridge battery storage facility in Illinois, the United States, received the 2015 Innovation Award for Centralized Storage and was awarded the Best Renewable Project of the Year by the Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World Magazine.
