Two police aides jailed for abusing power
    2017-August-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TWO police aide officers in Xixiang Subdistrict were sentenced to seven months in jail for abusing power and profiting from the deletion or cancellation of parking violation records.

The two aide officers, Xie and Hou, were responsible for handling traffic accidents within the administration area under the instruction of police officers, and for putting parking violations into the computer system.

In September 2016, a newsstand operator, surnamed Huang, colluded with the aide officers to make profits by helping parking violators cancel their violation records.

After Huang received the money from the parking violators, Huang took a commission of up to 100 yuan (US$15) and transferred a sum half the total of the fine to Xie, who shared it evenly with Hou.

According to the verdict at Bao’an District People’s Court, the three made 14,000 yuan in illicit income by canceling or deleting 40 illegal parking records between September and December last year.

Huang earned more than 3,000 yuan and the rest was shared by the two aide officers.

The irregularities were exposed Dec. 18, when a parking violator, Zhang, contacted Huang after he was given a fine of 1,000 yuan for illegal parking.

Zhang also contacted local media for fear of being cheated and the irregularities were exposed.

Huang was sentenced to five months in detention with a one-year suspension.
