Employees of companies owned by Chaoshan businesspeople in Shenzhen donate blood at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday. More than 1,500 people, including Chaoshan businesspeople, their employees and family members, donated blood at yesterday’s event, for which the city’s blood center dispatched 11 vehicles and about 100 medical workers. The event set two city records — for the number of donors and the amount of blood donated. A total of 379,250 ml of blood was donated at yesterday’s event. The donation was organized by Chaoshan Chamber of Commerce in Shenzhen and Shenzhen Blood Center. Seventeen associations of Chaoshan people in Shenzhen also participated in the organization of the event. People from the Chaoshan area in Guangdong Province are known in China for being good at doing business. Shenzhen tycoons such as Yao Zhenhua of Bao’an Group, Huang Maoru of MOI Department Store and Huang Shizai of Great China International Group are from the Chaoshan area. Sun Yuchen
