SHENZHEN Bravery Foundation gave 15 Good Samaritans cash rewards ranging from 4,000 yuan (US$600) to 90,000 yuan for their brave deeds, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.
Shenzhen Kesilu Science and Technology Co. donated 1 million yuan to the foundation at the ceremony to encourage brave deeds.
Among them, Yue Zhanwei, 37, a native of Henan Province, was given 90,000 yuan for helping catch a robber.
On May 1, Qiu heard a woman crying for help near Jinquan Hotel in Longgang Subdistrict, Longgang District. Qiu rushed to chase the robber and attempted to catch him. During the scuffle, Qiu was stabbed in the thigh. The robber was caught May 2 and has been detained, according to yesterday’s reports.
Zhou Yifei, 26, a tourist in Shenzhen, was given 40,000 yuan for controlling a man who had allegedly harassed a female rider on Metro Line 5 on the night of Oct. 12 last year. Despite injuring his neck, Zhou finally caught the suspect, identified as Cao, at the turnstile of Bantian Station.
Qiu Changhuan, another resident, was given 40,000 yuan for climbing up a six-story building last August to save a child who had been trapped in the gap between iron bars on the balcony of an apartment in Longgang District.
“This reward relieves the plight of my family and will help my mother who is suffering from diseases,” Qiu said at the ceremony.
Established in January 1992, Shenzhen Bravery Foundation had received donations totaling 108 million yuan by the end of July and has given out 44.43 million yuan to 3,396 individuals, including 95 people who gave their lives and 67 units for their brave deeds.
