Urban village beside SZU to be demolished
    2017-August-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GUIMIAO New Village, an urban village occupying an area of over 70,000 square meters beside Shenzhen University in Nanshan District, will soon be demolished, according to sznews.com.

Most of the buildings in the village were built in the 1990s, with narrow alleys left between them.

Because of the shortage of dormitories at Shenzhen University, the university authorities had rented two buildings in Guimiao New Village and Yuehaimen Village from 2002 to 2007. The buildings were renovated and turned into dormitories, providing 5,420 beds for its students.

The village has since become an off-campus living quarter where students spend their spare time.

Many students enjoy hanging out in the village, where different kinds of food can be found, and some students have even opened their own stores in the village to gain experience in running a business.

On the other hand, Guimiao New Village has enjoyed fame for being a lively and vibrant urban village in the city.

According to the report, the urban renovation project of the village will be launched soon. The 70,225-square-meter village will be demolished to make way for residential buildings.
