Woman faints on street
    2017-August-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PINGSHAN traffic police found a woman who had fainted on the street due to heatstroke Sunday afternoon while patrolling on Jinshan Road in Pingshan District, according to a post released on Weibo by the city’s traffic police, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Monday.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, Pingshan traffic police officers were patrolling near the China Construction Bank on Jinshan Road, and found the woman who had fainted on the street. Traffic flow was relatively heavy, so the police officers immediately picked the woman up and carried her to some shade to rest and gave her some mineral water to alleviate her heatstroke symptoms. After calling 120, the police officers helped medical staff escort the woman to the hospital by regulating the traffic at the scene.

The city has been hit with scorching heat in recent weeks.

Following a record-high electrical load to the city’s power grids Aug. 1, the record was broken again Monday, with a maximum load of 17.53 million kilowatts. This is the third time this year that the city has set a record-high for its electrical load, up 7.8 percent compared to the peak of 16.26 million kilowatts last year, according to statistics released by China Southern Power Grid.

Under the influence of the relentless heat wave, the city’s meteorological observatory upgraded the yellow heat alert to orange Monday morning. It has been reported that the power grids in Shenzhen were operating at their ultimate limit state Monday. Some power supply equipment overloaded, causing power failures in a number of areas in Longhua, Longgang, Guangming and Bao’an districts. Some areas in Luohu, Yantian, Nanshan, Pingshan and Futian districts also saw power failures Tuesday.

The city’s power supply bureau said the core of the problem lies in the great complexity of power grid construction and the difficulty in expanding and transforming power grids. (Zhang Yu)
