A MAN who reportedly molested a female rider in a women-priority carriage on Metro Line 1 on Aug. 7 was detained by police Monday.

The female Metro rider complained in a Weibo post Aug. 7 that her butt and thighs were touched by the man in the women-priority carriage, and the man followed her when she got off the train at the Chegongmiao Station and touched her again.

The woman said she warned the man and yelled at him, but the man responded: “I just touched you and followed you, so what?”

The woman took a picture of the man and posted it on Weibo, but she didn’t call the police because she didn’t have enough evidence. Her post has caught a lot of attention online and has been reported by local media.

The city’s public security bureau’s public transport sub-bureau said on its Weibo on Aug. 9 that they were investigating the case. On Tuesday, the subbureau said on its Weibo that the man, surnamed Li, was detained Monday.

Li admitted that he had molested the victim, and is being held under administrative detention, according to police. (Zhang Yang)
