Tunnel plan approved
THE tunnel plan for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor passed an expert review Tuesday, sources from Guangdong Transportation Group said.
The 6.8-km tunnel will be the world’s first eight-lane tunnel that employs immersed tubes.
Construction of the corridor, linking the Shenzhen and Zhongshan banks of the Pearl River, is going smoothly. By Tuesday, a total of 49 super-large cylinders, accounting for 85.9 percent of the total, had been placed in the river for the construction of the artificial island. The cylinder work will be finished in September.
Graduate studies
THE Southern University of Science and Technology, along with two other universities in Guangdong, was recently approved by the Ministry of Education to recommend students for postgraduate studies without examinations.
The ministry this year has approved 54 universities to have the privilege of recommending students.
Outer-ring expressway
BY the end of July, 15 percent of the construction on the outer-ring expressway in Guangming New Area had been completed, while the accumulated investment for the project reached 5.2 billion yuan (US$780.68 million), accounting for 25 percent of the 20.96 billion yuan in total investment.
Shenzhen outer-ring expressway is Shenzhen’s first toll highway investment project to adopt the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model. The section in Guangming New Area stretches 15.3 kilometers and connects to Bao’an District. A distinctive feature of the project is its combination of bridges and tunnels.
By the end of this year, the handover of 88 hectares of land and the demolition of 158,000 square meters of housing units are expected to be completed to fully cooperate with the expressway’s construction.
Flight to Moscow
CHINA Southern Airlines will operate flights between Shenzhen and Moscow starting Sept. 28.
The flights will operate every Monday and Thursday. Flight CZ8371 will leave Shenzhen at 4:35 p.m. and arrive in Moscow at 9:45 p.m. (local time). The return flight, CZ8372, will leave at 11:30 p.m. and arrive in Shenzhen at 1:30 p.m. the following day.
During the promotional period, the fare for a round trip will be 1,750 yuan (taxes and fees not included). Eighty percent of the tickets for the first five flights have already been booked.
In addition, the airline will add flights from Shenzhen to Changchun, Hangzhou and Wenzhou starting Sept. 7.
Love farce
A WOMAN was administratively punished for making a false report about prostitution in an apartment in Longgang District on Monday.
After a quarrel with her boyfriend, Guo, who was locked out of the apartment, called police and fabricated the offense.
