Car accident

A WOMAN in her 20s was hit by a car while crossing Nanxin Road at the intersection near the entrance to Nanshan Village in Nanshan District on Saturday evening.

The driver, a female in her 30s, was suspected of driving so fast that she failed to stop in front of the crossing to give way to pedestrians.

College dream

SHENZHEN Federation of Worker’s Unions gave out 2.01 million yuan (US$302,811) in subsidies to 642 poor families this year so their children could study at high schools and universities.

Each student could get a subsidy between 2,500 yuan to 3,500 yuan for each term. Families whose average income are below 1,350 yuan a month, or below 2,700 yuan month but live in difficulty due to illness, can apply for the subsidies. The program was initiated in 2002. In 16 years, the federation has given out 16 million yuan to help 6,084 families.

New bridge

THE 860-meter Xin’an Bridge, which spans Dongbao River and connects Shajing Subdistrict in Shenzhen to Chang’an Township in Dongguan, was put into operation Saturday after more than three years of construction, cutting the trip between the townships to five minutes.

Before the opening of the bridge, drivers had to drive more than 10 kilometers between the two towns.

Clinical 3-D center

A CLINICAL 3-D printing base in Guangdong Province was recently established at Southern Medical University Shenzhen Hospital. The 3-D printing base will serve as a digital laboratory for the development of 3-D models and products for surgical purposes.
