Missing girl found in Hunan
    2017-August-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A 10-YEAR-OLD girl from Bao’an District, who left home and went missing, Aug. 23 was found by police Saturday in a town in Hunan Province, the Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

The girl, identified as Ying, left home at around 6 p.m. Aug. 23 after having a fight with her family. Over 100 police officers were deployed to search for Ying after her father reported the case to Dongfang Police Station in Bao’an. Surveillance footage of Songgang Road near Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway showed the girl leaving with a man on the evening of Aug. 24.

The police finally confirmed Ying’s whereabouts after checking the surveillance footage of nearly 1,000 street cameras in Shenzhen and Dongguan. A 40-something man, who had traveled to Shenzhen, brought Ying to Dongguan, where they took a train to Hunan Province. Ying was found by the police in a town in Changning City in Hunan.

The man said he wanted to raise Ying after he found the girl alone and helpless late at night. The man is being held under criminal detention by the police and the investigation of the case continues.

According to the police, Ying has been living with her father and stepmother since her parents divorced when she was 1 year old. Probably due to her parents’ neglect, Ying had run away from home before.

The girl wasn’t willing to speak to the police after she was rescued. The police have offered psychological counseling to the girl and are calling for parents to care for and spend more time with their children.
