PROFESSIONALS at various levels will be eligible for a variety of subsidies from the Shenzhen government, according to a policy going into effect Friday.
Professionals include newly elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering in Shenzhen after March 23, 2016, and leading researchers at key labs of universities, firms and research institutes.
The employers of the academicians and prominent talents can apply for 1 million yuan (US$151,500) in working fees for their talents.
The academicians can apply for up to 6 million yuan in subsidies as long as they work full time in Shenzhen or are contracted to work in Shenzhen for at least nine months.
Leading researchers and scientists at key laboratories of institutions and enterprises at home and abroad, who meet the criteria for Category A talents, will be given a subsidy of 3 million yuan if they work full time in Shenzhen and have paid insurance for at least three months.
Category A includes leading scientists in a particular field, people owning intellectual property rights or those whose inventions or research have great market potential.
Category B talents and leading professionals accredited by local governments can get subsidies of 2 million yuan. Category B refers to experts and scholars who are well-known in their fields and have chaired big international research projects.
The reserved talents and Category C talents can get subsidies of 1.6 million yuan. Category C covers professionals whose skills are badly needed in an industry.
The subsidies will be distributed annually in even portions over five years, according to Shenzhen’s human resources and social security bureau.
