Summer turnover
THE number of international travelers arriving in Shenzhen during the summer transport season of July and August increased by 28.7 percent to 658,000, statistics from the Shenzhen airport showed.
The airport handled a total of 7.84.05 million passengers this season, an increase of 7.9 percent over the same period last year.
Nonlocal vehicles
SHENZHEN traffic police fined a total of 789 nonlocal vehicles in the past week for illegally traveling on Shenzhen roads during rush hours, as they enforced the new rule that took effect Sept. 1 covering the whole city.
There were 601,700 vehicles on average running on Shenzhen roads before September. After the rule took effect, the number of nonlocal vehicles on Shenzhen roads went down by 47 percent to 319,200. Police are using 351 sets of cameras to record vehicles that violate the rule. They will impose a 300-yuan (US$46) fine and add three penalty points to each driver’s license.
Road closure
THE viaduct for southbound vehicles turning west at the Caitian Overpass off Shennan Boulevard will be closed for 10 weekdays between midnight and 6 a.m. from Sept. 9 to 18 due to construction work on the Gangxiabei Metro Comprehensive Transport Hub.
