THE two-day Global Innovator Conference, a top China-based brand for scientific, technological and cultural events, concluded Saturday in Shenzhen.

More than 800 representatives, including entrepreneurs, scientists and innovators, were in attendance, seeking a source integration platform to serve innovators.

The theme of the conference was divided into 13 categories including artificial intelligence, big data, precision medicine, clean energy and intelligent manufacturing.

The organizers, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China Chamber of International Commerce and APEC China Business Council, also set up special participatory sessions around themes like the bay area creation and the Belt and Road innovation and cooperation to let the scholars and innovators share their experiences.

The co-organizer, Shenzhen Branch of CCPIT, also set up a special channel through which local enterprises that were interested in learning about innovative ideas with global innovators and participating in global science innovation could sign up for the conference.

At the conference, some Chinese scholars pointed out the challenges and pinches that Chinese innovators are facing, suggesting the importance of cultivating innovators systematically, instead of simply integrating resources.

“China has three advantages regarding innovation, such as a complete manufacturing system integrating logistics and supply chain, low costs for scientific research and marketing and huge market potential,” said Gan Jie, professor of finance and associate dean for technology innovation and entrepreneurship at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.

The three advantages will be particularly helpful in intelligent industries, such as the Internet and shared economy, according to Gan.

But China’s science and innovation companies have also faced challenges, including the shortage of technological talents, inefficiency in management and incomplete enterprise structure.

“The project-based systematic cultivation of talents needs an ecological system for innovation and entrepreneurship, or support from the whole industrial chain including technological support, marketing and branding, instead of simply integrating resources through incubation,” Gan said.
