SHENZHEN planning and land resources commission is seeking public opinion on a proposed list of 45 historic sites designated for protection.

The historic sites include some modern buildings, like International Trade Building, the symbol of Shenzhen Speed, Diwang Mansion and Shanghai Hotel, as well as ancient buildings featuring some architecture that dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Among the sites, Diwang Mansion is the tallest. Once Shenzhen’s tallest building, it is 384 meters tall and has a floor space of 70,000 square meters. The smallest is the tomb pagoda in Dongshan Temple in Dapeng New Area, which covers an area of 2 square meters.

Baode Ancestral Hall on Zhongshan East Road in Nantou Ancient City, Nanshan District, and another ancestral hall in Shiwei Village in Gongming Subdistrict, Guangming New Area, were built during the Ming Dynasty and are the oldest pieces of architecture among the sites.

The newest historic relic is the Zhongying Street Historic Museum in Yantian District, which was built in 1999. It has become a patriotism education base in Guangdong Province.

The historic sites share three features, such as having high comprehensive value, diversified styles and features as well as rich historical content.

Regarding style, the historic sites include modern buildings as well as Hakka- and Cantonese-style buildings.

According to the planning commission, archeological research shows that Shenzhen’s history dates back to the Qin Dynasty, around 221 B.C.

The public can submit suggestions to the commission until Sept. 22.
