Upset by setbacks in his professional and personal life, and out of dissatisfaction towards society, the man intentionally scratched paint off the doors and walls of a Metro train on Line 1 in July, causing 7,000 yuan (US$1,077) in damage to the Shenzhen Metro company. The man, in his 30s, came to Shenzhen to work after graduation, but he became unemployed.
Deformity rate
THE deformity rate in Shenzhen was 19.36 for every 1,000 newborns in 2016, with the main deformities being congenital heart disease, polydactylism, talipes varus, dactylion and hypospadia, according to the city’s health commission Sunday, the eve of National Newborn Deformity Prevention Promotion Week.
Shenzhen adopted a three-tier mechanism for preventing deformities in newborns in 2007, comprising premarital checks, prenatal checks and diagnosis, and newborn screening. The city invests around 100 million yuan a year in subsidies, and five hospitals, including Shenzhen Mother and Child Healthcare Hospital, have set up centers offering prenatal checks and diagnosis.
