A FIST-SIZED stone weighing 420 grams was removed from a woman’s bladder by doctors at Longgang Central Hospital on Monday, according to sznews.com.
The 51-year-old woman, surnamed Yin, went to the hospital Sept. 8 after feeling pain in her abdomen. After a checkup, the doctors found a fist-sized stone, as long as 10 centimeters and as wide as 8 centimeters, in Yin’s bladder.
The chief surgeon in the hospital’s urological surgery department said small bladder stones can usually be smashed and removed via a minimally invasive surgery. However, he said the stone in Yin’s bladder was too large, so the doctors had to perform a traditional surgery to remove the stone.
The stone, which took up almost Yin’s entire bladder, was successfully removed by the doctors after a one-hour surgery Monday. Currently, Yin is recovering at the hospital.
According to the report, Yin had been carrying the stone for over 20 years. Although Yin knew that she had developed a bladder stone a long time ago, she didn’t pay attention to it and didn’t expect that it would grow so large.
According to the hospital, residents are advised to drink 2 to 3 liters of water per day, do more exercise, follow a healthy diet and have checkups on a regular basis. Those who are diagnosed with stones in their bodies should get medical treatment in a timely manner.
