Young makers

THE Third Shenzhen Student Makers Festival kicked off Saturday at the Shenzhen Students Arts Education Base and Shenzhen No. 2 Senior High School, showcasing 152 entries by students.

A total of 100 student maker workshops were also inaugurated at the opening ceremony.

App-enabled locks

THE Shenzhen Transport Commission will promote app-based automatic locking bike stands in Yuehai Subdistrict, Nanshan District.

A total of 30 parking locations, 2,000 locking stands and five electronic fences will be built in the area encompassed by Gaoxin South No.10 Road, Binhai Boulevard, Keyuan South Road and Shahe West Road. After biking, users can simply push the front wheel into the stand and it will be automatically secured. If there is no open stand available, the app advises riders to park the bikes at recommended locations and apply for parking through the app.

New students

THE Sino-German College of the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology opened yesterday with 160 students studying communication technology and intelligence control as the college’s first students.

Students will receive certificates from Chinese and German educational authorities after three years of study and examinations separately organized by both sides. They can also apply for regular college courses in Germany for free if they successfully obtain the certificates and pass a German language proficiency test.
