A 27-YEAR-OLD woman’s organs were donated by her family after she died of cardiac arrest earlier this month in Shenzhen. Her kidneys were successfully transplanted to two patients Sept. 14, according to a Southern Metropolis Daily report Thursday.
Fang Xiaoyu had lived in Shenzhen for seven years after moving to the city from her hometown in Heilongjiang in 2010.
Fang asked for a leave of absence from work Sept. 2 due to feeling unwell. The next day, while cleaning her home, she passed out and never came to.
“She suddenly fell down and her heart stopped beating,” said Fang’s husband, who married Fang half a year ago. The husband brought her to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. She was later transferred to Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital where she was confirmed brain dead.
Fang’s father, who raised Fang all by himself, rushed to Shenzhen on Sept. 3. He couldn’t believe that his daughter was dead. They had just chatted as usual on WeChat the day before.
“I want my daughter to stay alive and I think organ donation is a way to extend her life,” Fang’s father said. He signed an agreement at the hospital Sept. 10 to donate all of Fang’s healthy organs and his decision was supported by Fang’s husband and other family members.
“Shenzhen was my daughter’s favorite city. We donated her organs so that she could stay in this city forever,” Fang’s father said.
Fang’s body was then transferred to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for preparation for organ transplantation. On Sept. 14, two patients waiting for new kidneys received Fang’s kidneys in a successful organ transplant operation. A short ceremony was held before the surgeries by the hospital’s medical staff to honor Fang’s memory.
