Air quality

THE air quality of Shenzhen ranked the 6th among the 74 major Chinese cities in the first eight months of this year, according to a report released by Ministry of Environment Protection on Tuesday.

The improvement in air quality was attributed to tightened measures in controlling emissions, treatment of heavy pollutants from vessels, VOC, industrial boilers and dust caused by construction sites and vehicles.

Trains at Guangming

TWO high-speed trains, G6028 from Futian to Changsha and G6253 from Guangzhou to Futian, will stop at Guangmingcheng Station starting today, bringing increased convenience to morning and evening commuters.

Under the new schedule that took effect yesterday, a total of 24 trains will stop at Guangmingcheng Station.

Dengue fever

SHENZHEN inspection and quarantine departments reminded outbound National Day holiday travelers to be aware of dengue fever, an on-going epidemic in Vietnam and the Philippines, while traveling to Southeast Asian countries.

By the end of August, Vietnam reported 100,000 dengue fever cases so far this year.

Suspected killer caught

A MAN named Wei, 24, who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Yin, 30, to death in a rental apartment in Longhua on Tuesday, has been caught by police.

Police said Wei and Yin were having a dispute over their relationship when Wei stabbed Yin with a fruit knife before fleeing the scene.

Footbridges planned

THE Longgang government is considering building nine footbridges in the area, connecting big shopping malls, Book City, gymnasiums, government departments and some residential complexes between two stations of Metro Line 3: Jixiang and Longcheng Square Stations.

Unruly drivers

REPRESENTATIVES of the operators of three ride hailing apps were summoned to a meeting with the city’s transport administration bureau over some drivers’ illegal practice of soliciting passengers at the Shenzhen airport.

Officials with the bureau briefed representatives of Didi, Shenzhou and Shouqi with four cases of drivers with ride hailing apps colluding with touts to illegally solicit passengers at the airport. The app operators were ordered to take disciplinary action against the violating drivers to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
