A BEACH cleanup team of over 20 students from Shenzhen Middle School and some of their parents performed a beach cleanup at the Shenzhen Mangrove Seashore Ecological Park on Saturday afternoon in a bid to mark the 32nd International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day and to raise people’s awareness of ocean environmental protection.

The beach cleanup student volunteers searched for and disposed of rubbish from cracks in rocks and on the lawns along the coast, and put them into the rubbish bags they had brought with them.

After the one-hour operation, they collected and classified different types of garbage including plastic bottles. Altogether, they have cleaned up more than 10 kilograms of rubbish.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day, launched by Ocean Conservancy in 1986, invited citizens to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways on International Coastal Cleanup Day in September each year.
