THREE entrepreneurs were invited to share their insights and experiences of starting a business in Shenzhen during a forum held in Longhua District by the Longhua High-level Talents Development and Promotion Association yesterday.

One of the guest speakers was Jiang Tong, CEO of Invisible Technology Shenzhen Co. Ltd., a high-tech company based in Qianhai. According to Jiang, there are four key factors — idea, product, team and execution — for running a startup.

He said many entrepreneurs started their own businesses after obtaining revolutionary technologies or discovering an unexplored market with huge potential. “After pitching an idea, people should not stop at only having an idea. They should be able to realize the idea as well,” Jiang said.

According to him, choosing the right co-founders or partners is essential for a startup. “Co-founders or partners of a startup should share the same values, complement one another, be fully devoted to the company and take the risks together,” he said.

Another guest speaker, Steve Lee from Taiwan, is the CEO of Shenzhen TransTEC Co. Ltd. He founded the company in Longhua District two years ago after he resigned from a senior management position at Foxconn.

Lee is a lover of model planes, and his company specializes in developing and producing racing drones.

According to him, passion alone is not enough for people to sustain a new business concept. They should also be able to tailor their products and adapt to market needs in order to keep their companies going strong.

Lee said it’s also important for a startup to have its own “hematopoietic function” to earn money in other ways that support its main business before it is funded by investors.
