Reservoir dam closed

THE dam viewing area at Meilin Reservoir in Futian District will be closed to the public for a dam reinforcement project that will start Oct. 15, sources from the Meilin Reservoir Management Department said.

The project will last about one year. The Meilin Greenway, a popular place for hiking and leisure, will not be affected by the project.

Holiday weather

THE weather during the National Day holiday will be cloudy with occasional showers, according to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory yesterday.

Due to subtropical high pressure systems, the weather will be hot in the middle of the holiday, then there will be showers because of an incoming cold front.

On Saturday and Sunday, coastal cities in central and western Guangdong will experience heavy rains while eastern cities will be overcast with occasional rain.

The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow high temperature alert yesterday and 44 automatic observation stations reported temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperature recorded was 36.7 degrees Celsius at the Shuanglong observation station.

Boy trapped

A 3-YEAR-OLD boy whose head got stuck between the bars of the safety railing on a balcony hung in the air before being saved by neighbors.

The incident happened at 6 p.m. Thursday when the child climbed up the balcony on the third floor of an apartment in Xinhe Community, Fuhai Subdistrict in Bao’an District.

Video provided by neighbors showed three men climbing up the building and supporting the child until the grandma of the child unlocked the door and took the child back to safety.
